John ("Johnny") Winnick II
On May 19, 2008, military prosecutors charged Sgt. John F. Winnick II with two counts of voluntary manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault and one count of dereliction of duty for incidents that occurred almost one full year prior to the charges. We cannot discuss the case and any details but we can tell you that Johnny did exactly what he was trained to do.
We have set up this website to give our friends, family and supporters more information about Johnny and to support his innocence. We have a respected and experienced attorney, Gary Myers, whom is helping Johnny to be cleared of all charges. Although this is a very stressful time for our family, we are doing extremely well. God has truly upheld every member of our family and we are staying very positive. We firmly believe God will be glorified in all of this! Johnny is confident that the truth will be heard. We are blessed with all your prayers, supportive emails, and comments on the blog.
Though he is way too humble to ever admit it, Johnny is one of the most upright, caring, and hardworking Marines serving our country. We know we have a tough journey ahead of us, but we know it will be easier with your support.
On July 24th 2008 the Marine Corps. Announced Lt Gen. Helland's decision to dismiss all charges that had been brought against Sgt John F. Winnick II. We were overjoyed to finally hear this incredible verdict. We had total faith that Johnny would be exonerated, knowing he made the best decision he could in the circumstances he was in. We want to thank all of the many friends, family, neighbors and caring people who have written, called, donated and most of all prayed for Johnny. The Lord worked through you to change the hearts and minds of the prosecutors to see the truth and totally dismiss the charges. The following are two bible verses we, as a family, have clung to as God's promises. Isaiah 54:8,17, "...I hid my face from you for a moment, but I will have compassion on you with everlasting love." "...No weapon formed against you will succeed, and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the Lord's servants, and their righteousness is from Me." And Psalm 138:1,3,8, "I will give You thanks with my whole heart?for your constant love and faithfulness." "On the day I called You answered me; You increased strength within me." "...If I walk in the thick of danger You will preserve my life." "..The Lord will fulfill (His purpose) for me. Lord Your love is eternal; do not abandon the work of Your hands."
Thanks and blessings to our amazing lawyers, Gary Myers and Dan Conway. What an incredible job you both did. We were honored to have you represent Johnny in court and thrilled to watch you both "perform". Thanks also to Major Munoz for his military knowledge and defense as Johnny's military lawyer.
